What are All-on-4 dental implants and are they right for me: A complete guide

All-on-4 dental implants guide

What are all-on-4 dental implants?

All-On-4 full mouth implant technology is a revolutionary procedure that gives you a complete replacement of all your teeth. Upper and/or lower bridges (prosthetic teeth) are placed on four dental implants within your jaw.

We use high-tech Nobel Biocare titanium implants, while our bridges are handcrafted and milled by hand here in Perth. This combination gives the most effective long-term solution and give the closest amount of functionality to your natural teeth. They integrate completely into your jawbone, becoming a permanent, seamless part of your bite.

Will I be happy with the outcome?

We’re not fortune-tellers, but we can say with confidence that it’s highly likely.

More than 250,000 patients have been successfully treated with the All-on-4 treatment concept. One study of 250 patients revealed that 95% of patients were satisfied with their new teeth, with 98% willing to recommend similar treatment to their friends.

Who is suitable for all-on-4?

The goal of dental implants is to improve a patient’s quality of life. You might be a good candidate for dental implants if you:

  • Are missing some or all of your teeth
  • Suffer from pain and infection
  • Have significant decay and gum disease
  • Find dentures and adhesives frustrating
  • Need better function when eating
  • Lack adequate bone tissue for conventional dental implant procedures

How long do All-on-4 dental implants last?

Our Nobel Biocare titanium implants are the most durable and effective solution – backed up by rigorous studies showing a 98% implant survival rate.

With proper care, you can expect your All-on-4 implants to last at least 20-25 years.

Are all-on-4 implants painful?

It’s a surprisingly comfortable, seamless experience.

You’ll be under IV sedation for your treatment. Some patients report some discomfort during surgery, while others say they don’t feel a thing. Most say they are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the experience is.

And, of course, you’ll experience way less pain over the long run from allaying infection and the other problems that come with missing or terminal teeth.

What are my sedation options?

Intravenous sedation – also known as sleep dentistry – is required for All-on-4 surgery. Performed under the care of our specialist anaesthetists, you’ll feel calm and comfortable throughout and won’t remember it after. Most patients say it’s like going to sleep then waking up again.

How long does it take?

One of the best things about the All-on-4 dental implant treatment is how fast it is. You can have your beautiful new smile in as few as one to four days – with minimal downtime.

As with any major surgery, it’s recommended you take a week off to heal and rest.

What can I eat after all-on-4?

During the initial healing phase, it’s essential to stick to soft foods to allow your gums and implants to heal.

Once healed, you can enjoy a normal diet – one that includes biting into a juicy steak or a crisp green apple. The strong link between your jaw and new teeth means you can enjoy food with ease that might have been off the table for years. Bring back the joy of eating with confidence!

Do all-on-4 dental implants look and feel natural?

Yes! With advanced materials and technology, they are the closest thing you can get to replicate the look and function of your natural teeth.

A digital smile design with 3D scans creates a smile that is matched exactly to your smile and unique features. Your teeth are then handcrafted with natural imperfections, colouring and staining, to ensure a totally natural look. The unique four implant system means the weight-bearing load is shared evenly, restoring normal function.

Our patients often say people are blown away when they hear their new smile is implants!

What does all-on-4 cost?

Complete teeth replacement (All-on-4) is a complex, highly tailored process. We have an entire team dedicated to your health and goals and use advanced materials and digital technology for an amazing smile. We won’t sugar-coat it: the cost of all-on-4 is an investment. But so are its payoffs.

Confidence. Connection. Health. Freedom. The real price you’re paying is hiding your genuine smile from the world. Our patients often say it’s priceless.

But we also understand that a big financial investment is never one you should make lightly. That’s why our services include a financial wellbeing consultant to provide support and discuss your options – including self-funding, personal lending or accessing superannuation.

  • Single A04 bridge/arch (upper or lower) – $34,000
  • Upper & Lower A04 bridge/Arch – $56,800
  • Upper Denture & Lower A04 Bridge – $37,595

Is it better to have dentures or implants?

Many of our patients have lived for years with full or partial dentures. They often report frustration or embarrassment – with issues like difficulty speaking, irritation to the gums or mouth, or dentures falling out while talking or eating. (Find out why Penny was ready to chop hers up!). They come to us looking for a permanent, comfortable solution.

Dentures rely on surrounding teeth for support, whereas dental implants integrate firmly into the jawbone – effectively acting as a natural tooth through a biological process known as osseointegration. This provides an anchor for the restored tooth, ensuring long-term strength and function (compared to uncomfortable and temporary false teeth or dentures).

As well as being more comfortable, All-on-4 can prevent bone loss or facial collapse, which can happen with dentures – essentially giving you a mini facelift and a younger-looking appearance!

Help! I have dental anxiety.

Scared of the dentist? You’re not alone. Dental anxiety doesn’t discriminate, and most of our patients suffer from some form of dental phobia or shame. The sad thing is, often the people who avoid the dentist are the ones who need it most.

We have many methods to help you overcome your anxiety – from sedation and pain relief options to self-soothing hacks. In fact, many of our patients actually tell us they enjoy coming back to see us! They describe our practice as a warm and uplifting space, full of friendly staff – more akin to a day spa than a traditional dentist.

We have a no-judgement policy at our practice. Our purpose is to serve you and support you – no matter your history, the state of your teeth, or the treatment you need.

What are the risks?

All-on-4 implants have a very high rate of success. However, as with all major surgery, there are some risks.

Occasionally – in around 3-5% of patients – the implants may fail. The risk of implant failure is increased if the patient is a smoker, diabetic, undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or does not maintain oral hygiene. Implant failure can also be due to incorrect placement. However, it is generally easy to remove and replace an implant and modify the bridge.

Incorrectly placed implants can also cause discomfort, alter speech, or look unnatural. This is why it’s so important to choose a specialised dentist who can do 3D bone scans to ensure perfect placement. We also do a trial smile to make sure you’re totally happy with how you look, feel and sound with your new smile. You can learn more about risks here.

Other risks include surgical complications like infection or discomfort. It’s worth noting that these are preventable with proper oral after-care.
