Oral Health (Dental) Check-up Perth

At ADAP we offer a much more detailed examination than most dental practices. This includes; a thorough check up examination, x-ray, professional cleaning of your teeth, gums, and mouth.

We offer a thorough dental examination that includes:

  • Assessment of the teeth and bite
  • Digital radiographs (X-Ray)
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Review of bone and gum health
  • Comprehensive hygiene treatment

Good dental health prevents minor problems from becoming major ones, giving you the best chance to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile for life. We recommend six monthly check ups, which when supported by a good at-home routine will help to keep your mouth healthy.

Why oral health checks are important:

  • Help maintain current teeth and smile
  • Helps to identify any serious tooth issues
  • Used to detect more serious health conditions
  • Good for maintaining overall general health
  • During pregnancy, helps prevent poor oral health in baby
  • Aids in preventing heart-related issues, diabetes, and other conditions throughout the body
  • Helps detect oral conditions early such as cancer
  • Prevention of tooth decay
  • Assessment of gum health before bone destruction occurs
  • Detects deterioration of old fillings and teeth early for more minimal treatment options
  • Can allow for changes to be detected and habits to be altered before irreversible damage occurs to teeth or bone

Oral health linked to overall health

Modern medicine recognises that oral health is linked to overall health. This link has to with dental bacteria and the way it interacts with the rest of your body. Now, while it is still unclear exactly what the link is, there is evidence to suggest that problems such as periodontitis is linked to:

  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Alzhiemer’s
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Heart attacks

The importance of oral health checks

Oral health checks are important for two reasons:

  1. To make sure your teeth, gums and supporting bone structures are healthy
  2. Check the soft tissues of the mouth
  3. Examine the tongue and orally screen the mouth, to check for cancers

If oral cancer is not detected early the survival rate is very low; this is one of the reasons why it’s so important to detect it early. Your tongue can tell a dentist a lot about the health of your body. For example, if someone is anaemic this will show up in the mouth first. HIV also shows up in the mouth early on.

These reasons are why oral health checks are so important. Oral health checks are much more than just checking your teeth and gums—it’s about checking the health of the body in general.
