What’s The Difference Between Porcelain Veneers to Composite Veneers?

Composite veneers are directly formed in the mouth. The material used has a putty like consistency which is then placed over the original tooth which has been primed and set. The putty like material is then shaped to look like the original tooth and forms a thin coating to change the shape, texture and color. Some cosmetic dental professionals find this procedure hard because the shape of the veneers may not be uniform or aligned with the other teeth. It will have a bulbous effect if it is not shaped properly. Advantages over porcelain veneers is its price, it’s much cheaper compared to the other material. It’s also a one appointment procedure. Lab fabricated composite veneers are much stronger because it is cured under heat and compressed nitrogen. Porcelain veneers on the other hand are made by a licensed laboratory dental technician. Molds of the patient’s teeth are made and are sent to the lab where a copy of the clients’ teeth is fabricated. These porcelain veneers are thin, translucent and enamel colored shells. Air bubbles are prevented since it is fired in a vacuum surface. It has a high glaze finish and mimics the look of the natural tooth. Porcelains are a little bit pricier than composite ones. It will take a highly skilled and licensed lab technician and cosmetic dentist to do the right job. If done right, bacteria build up and gum diseases will be prevented.
